A friend of mine was telling me about a company called iamvoip.com. What do they do?
Iamvoip.com is phone provider that uses the internet as the base for you phone service. It also appears they are a network marketing company

After spending some time researching iamvoip. I found nothing, but tons of links to pathetic plugs to this company. I could not find any credible information or authentic reviews of this company/service. When one cannot find any reviews of a service, one should become suspect. The old saying is, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.
Here is an excerpt from their website, "IamVoip uses your high speed internet connection instead of phone lines to save you bundles of money. Keep your same number, use the same phone you always have, and make your calls as usual. IamVoip works exactly the same as your traditional phone service. Just pick up the phone and hear a dial tone. When someone calls you, your phone rings. You'll never even notice a difference in service, only a drastic difference in price!"
For cheap/lower end VOIP providers, service fluctuates drastically. They fail to mention what happens if the power goes out... no phone service (unless the provider has generators and you too). What happens if your internet goes down? No phone service.
I am not saying landlines are not outdated like iamvoip says, "outdated, more expensive telecom lines." Unless you have a fortified internet connection, VOIP will not be crystal clear like you want it to be. Plus, if you are downloading/uploading files (which takes up bandwidth), your voice call could be affected.
VOIP is great if you can provide enough bandwidth and invest in a solid and robust internet connection. For businesses, he typical minimum I put my clients on is a dynamic T-1, (1.544Mbps) voice & data. For residences, I have a landline or a cell phone.
